Sacramento Area Congregations Together
Sacramento Area Congregations Together (ACT) is a non-sectarian,
faith based grassroots community organization composed
of 35 congregations and parent-school organizations
representing over 40,000 families in Sacramento City
and County. ACT is a highly diverse organization. Our
work involves building citizen driven partnerships between
local communities and public institutions.
Since its inception in 1991, ACT has led successful
efforts in healthcare access, education reform, neighborhood
improvement, public safety, and leadership development
so that Sacramento's children and families will experience
empowerment, hope, and success. ACT is Sacramento's
largest collaborative effort, bringing together religious
and community leaders from across the region in a united
effort to improve the quality of life for local families.
Sacramento ACT is a member of the Pacific Institute
for Community Organization (PICO).
ACT accomplishments include:
" Youth: Youth ACTing together moved Regional Transit
to permanently reduce bus fares for all middle and high
school students in Sacramento.
" Education: The Parent/Teacher Home Visit Project
reconnects relationships between parents and teachers
in a shared vision of helping children become more successful
both academically and socially. This project is now
statewide through a $15M legislation bill.
" Health: SacAdvantage, a low cost health insurance
pilot program for working families.
" Neighborhoods: Neighborhood Accountability Boards
(NABS), a first time juvenile offender program that
allows youth to make amends for their actions.
