Proyecto Campesino
(a project of the American Friends Service Committee)
Proyecto Campesino has given particular attention to
supporting farm workers in their quest for humane working
conditions, safer housing, affordable health care, and
the recognition due them as some of the hardest working
members of our society.
Proyecto Campesino conducts citizenship classes in
Tulare County communities, creates and adapts curriculum
materials, trains citizenship teachers, assists students
with the citizenship applications, provides one-on-one
tutoring and immigration consultations, and assists
in the application process. Taking the citizenship classes
as a base, the program engages immigrants in the civic
issues that affect them, both before and after they
become U.S. citizens and supports them in a wide range
of civic actions, including voter registration campaigns,
voter education, and public rallies.
Proyecto Campesino provides services such as completion
of social service forms, translation of letters and
documents, and helps immigrants communicate with other
non-profit or governmental agencies in regards to benefits.
Proyecto also produces a weekly radio program that carries
information regarding various issues and gives voice
to the immigrant community by inviting them as guest
speakers and providing training for those interested
in learning about radio broadcasting.
