Center for Immigrant and Worker Rights
The Center for Immigrant and Worker Rights was formed
by a coalition of immigrant organizations, labor organizers,
and economic justice advocates in the San Joaquin Valley.
Originally we came together to press for immigration
reform that would include the granting of legal status
to the many workers without valid immigration documentation.
That is still a long-range goal and we continue to work
with national, regional and local groups to reach that
goal. In addition we participate in campaigns on related
immigration issues such as financial support for undocumented
students seeking higher education.
Our mission has expanded to include educating workers,
especially low-income immigrant workers, about their
rights in the workplace. We collaborate with labor unions
that are seeking to organize immigrants and we provide
outreach to workers who have no other source of help
when their rights have been violated.
