Introducing the Partnership

The Central Valley Partnership for Citizenship is a "learning collaborative" of nine nonprofit partner agencies and four nonprofit support agencies spread throughout California from Bakersfield in the Southern San Joaquin Valley to Chico in the Northern Sacramento Valley.

The organizations of the Partnership are working together in California's Central Valley to build voluntary, self-perpetuating capacity that will enable people to participate fully in the civic life of their communities, including becoming naturalized citizens. The Partnership is supported by The James Irvine Foundation.

The nonprofits of the Central Valley Partnership for Citizenship work to help people help themselves, focusing on:

  • Citizenship education
  • Community organizing and training
  • Economic development in immigrant communities
  • ESL instruction
  • Health services
  • Immigration legal services
  • Information and referral to services
  • Legal advocacy
  • A wide array of other social services

The Central Valley Partnership for Citizenship seeks to create a collaborative environment in which participating organizations can learn from one another, building and sharing useful knowledge through associations with applied research organizations and other sources of technical support, including computer and video systems.
